Interactive Playthrough
Interactive Playthrough is the step‑by‑step flow for turning a Storyform moment into a playable experience. You choose the Storybeats that define the moment, attach the Players who will act inside it, and then play through the sequence from a chosen Perspective.
IMPORTANT
Interactive is available to Plus and Pro subscribers only.
Step‑by‑step
Choose the Storyform
- Start from a Storyform you trust. Interactive preserves the Storyform structure, so the more accurate the Storyform, the clearer the Playthrough feels.
Create or select a Moment
- A Moment is a playable slice of the story built from Storybeats. Use it to isolate a meaningful sequence before you commit to prose, scene work, or game logic.
Add Storybeats
- Select the Storybeats that define the moment. These become the beat‑by‑beat structure the Playthrough will follow.
Attach Players
- Assign the Players who take part in the Moment. Interactive is geared toward the Main Character experience, but you can attach any Players that belong in the beat.
Configure the Moment card
- Fill out the Moment card options (Setting, Timing, Imperatives, and Players). These set the boundaries and the pressure for the Playthrough.
Pick a Perspective
- Choose which Player Perspective you want to inhabit. You can enter as the Main Character by default or switch to another Player to see the moment from a different angle.
Play the Moment
- Step through the Storybeats, making choices and feeling the progression unfold.
Review and iterate
- If the moment feels off, adjust Storybeats, update the Moment card details, or revisit the Storyform. Then Playthrough again until it feels right.
Moment card options
The Moment card defines how the Playthrough will be framed. Treat these as the foundations for the player experience.
Setting
Where this Moment happens. Use it to lock the place, environment, or context the Players are in so the Playthrough stays grounded.
Timing
When this Moment happens relative to the story. This can be a specific point in the Storybeat sequence, a relative time window, or a narrative cue that tells the player what kind of moment they are entering.
Imperatives
Why this Moment matters right now. Imperatives communicate urgency, stakes, or constraints that drive the Players’ choices.
Players
Who participates in the Moment. Attach the Players who are present in the beat and make sure the roles are clear. This is what enables you to drop in as a specific Perspective and test how the Moment plays.
Getting ready for Interactive
Before you run a Playthrough, make sure the Moment card is complete and the Storybeats are in the order you want to experience. A clean setup gives you the most reliable feedback on tone, pacing, and consequence.
