Overviews

Overviews are short, story-facing summaries that translate your Storyform into readable Storytelling. They sit between structural decisions and full narrative prose, helping you explain what the story is about without reciting Dramatica terminology.

Why Overviews matter

  • Clarity - they keep the core promise of the story visible as you build.
  • Alignment - they reflect the same Storyform and Perspective choices you made elsewhere.
  • Momentum - they give collaborators a quick, shareable snapshot of the story's direction.

Overviews available in Subtxt

Subtxt supports a focused set of Overviews you can generate and refine:

  • Logline - a one or two sentence summary of the story's central argument.
  • Genre Dynamics - the tonal personality and thematic undercurrents that shape the read.
  • Writing Style - the Storytelling voice you want reflected in Synopses and outputs.
  • Visual Design - the aesthetic and visual direction you want the story to evoke.
  • Analysis Notes - contextual notes or commentary that explain how to read the Storyform.
  • Blended Throughlines Overview - a unified read that connects the Objective Story, Main Character, Influence Character, and Relationship Story Perspectives.

Working with Overviews

Overviews are designed to evolve as the Storyform sharpens. If you update a Throughline, Storypoint, or Storybeat, revisit the related Overview to keep the Storytelling in sync.

TIP

Overviews are short by design. Use them as an anchor, then expand the story in Writing when you are ready for full Storytelling.
